Minister of Religion: The Marriage Book is Maintained and Still Exists

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Indonesian Minister of Religion (Minister of Religion) Lukman Hakim Saifuddin stressed that the marriage card to be issued by the Ministry of Religion (RI Ministry of Religion) is not for erasers or substitutes for marriage books.

"The marriage book is maintained and still exists. Because it is an official document," said the Minister of Religion while adding that the existence of a marriage card is a logical implication of the development of a marriage management application system or SIMKAH.

This is stated by the Minister of Religion to answer the public polemic that is viral on social media. Namely, the government was known planning to issue a marriage card to erase the existence of a marriage book which had been a valid proof of the marriage process.

According to the Minister of Religion, the context behind the plan for the issuance of the marriage card is essentially that the Ministry of Religion is very serious about fixing the marriage in the community, and is very concerned about the increasing number of domestic violence and divorce.

Furthermore, Minister of Religion explained that if the marriage event was recorded, it is integrated in an application called SIMKAH. This system will later be linked to The ministry's Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (Mendagri) so that all population data for each citizen is well integrated.

Thus, the Indonesian Minister of Religion reaffirmed that if the marriage card has nothing to do with compulsory to have it or not, this is an effort to do a breakthrough from Indonesian Ministry of Religion relating to population data.
