LAPAN Successfully Tested the Flight of Rhan-450 Rocket

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) has recently succeeded in testing the flight of the works of nation ballistic rocket, Rhan-450.

Quoting LAPAN's Twitter account, @LAPAN_RI, Tuesday, January 15, 2019, this 450 mm diameter rocket was successfully tested from the rocket launch of the Technology Test Center and Space and Atmospheric Observation in Pameungpeuk, Garut Regency, West Java.

This rocket is the result of collaboration between the LAPAN Rocket Technology Center, the Ministry of Defense and PT. Dahana that are incorporated in the National Rocket consortium.

One of the main programs in 2018 is an advanced testing of ground to ground rockets with a range of 100 Km.

The tested took place on Friday (12/28/2018) and testing was opened by the Deputy of Aeronautics and Space Technology LAPAN, Dr. Rika Andiarti then it was continued by the Head of Research and Development (Kabalitbang) of the Ministry of Defense, and Dirtekbang of PT. Dahana.

In 2016 Rhan-450 had been carried out flight tests with good results.

Rhan-450 is a ballistic rocket with a configuration of a total length of 7.1 meters, a diameter of 0.45 meters, a max speed of 4000 Km / hr, a mass of 1600 Kg, with a charge sensor of flying dynamics and ballasts.

This rocket carries two payloads consisting of GPS payload and radar payload. Both payloads have a mission to find out the movements and position of the rocket during flight. The target of the development of Rhan-450 is that the rocket flies well and is stable without any movement anomalies occurring during static tests.

In addition, it is also expected that the rocket motion sensor data (accelerometer, gyro and GPS) contained in the payload can work properly and can be transferred to the ground station in full and well from the beginning of the launch until the rocket falls back to Earth.

After the preparation and reading of the SOP of the rocket launch, at 09.05 WIB Rhan-450 was flown. Rockets launch well through the coastal clouds of Pameungpeuk with the shooting azimuth of 193 °. (*)
