TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world. Well, Researchers say that the taste of coffee besides obtained from the type of coffee, it is also influenced from the serving methods, including the coffee cup color.
Research conducted by a group of psychologists focusing on the senses of taste results the evidence that the coffee cup color is important for taste.

Related to this problem, the journal of Dr. George H Van Doorn, Dianne Wuillemin, and Charles Spence also gave similar arguments to the research above.
Their study found that bitter taste depends on the cup color. The researcher took the idea from a barista who got complain from the customers about the bitter coffee due to the white cup color.
The hypothesis was tested on volunteers and it's proven that white cup could increase the intensity of bitter taste in coffee. The researchers concluded, this is caused by the cup color in the coffee. Meanwhile, the transparent cups aren't too bitter, while the blue cup is able to encourage sweetness.
As reported by The Independent, both experiments show the coffee cup color can affect people's perceptions. This effect called cross-modal perception.
These researchers’ results support the view that the cup color should be a consideration for barista, because it can affect the taste for consumers.
