During Silence Day, All Internet Connection in Bali Will Be Temporarily Shut Down

TIMESINDONESIA, DENPASAR – On the Hari Raya Nyepi or Silence Day at March 7, 2019, all internet connection in Bali will be shut down temporarily to make it more sacred.

This due to Governor of Bali Decree No.027/1342/Set/Diskominfo by February 21, 2019 which instruct internet termination in all Bali area along the Silence Day.

"This letter is to acknowledge all internet providers along with the society to build a qualified Silence Day, thus then we also hope that people who has another religion other than Hindu could also respect the decision," The head of Biro Humas Protokol Setda Bali, Gede Darmawa said.

The termination will be held for 24 hours on March 7, 2019. This will be started by 06.00 a.m. to 06.00 a.m. the next day.

However, only the public services like hospital, police station, military, BPBD, BMKG, BASARNAS, and airport that will still have their connection. The provider also asked to do a notification before they terminate their connection.

Meanwhile, Abdul Kadir Makaramah the head of MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council) said that by obeying this rule, it's a manifest of how big is tolerance and respect between one to another religion in Indonesia especially in Bali.

“We fully support the decision, we have to respect and appreciate the Silence Day which of course has their own rule and tradition," he said.

In addition, Walubi through Pdt. DD. IKG. Karyana Govinda and Pdt. Jonathan Suharto also support the internet termination in Bali to appreciate the Silence Day.

"We fully support the government decision to terminate the internet connection in Bali during the Silence Day in order to make it more sacred," Pdt. Jonathan Suharto said. (*)
