Less Visitors at Mount Bromo Due to the Fluctuating Eruption

TIMESINDONESIA, PROBOLINGGO – The Monitoring Post of Mount Bromo at Cemoro Lawang, Ngadisari, Probolinggo, stated that the eruption of Mount Bromo seemed to decrease. Although the volcano still emits volcanic ash, the height of the smoke only reaches up to 600 meters. This condition leads to the decrease in the number of the visitors.

Until now, the Centre of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) keeps monitoring the condition of Mount Bromo. The eruption could last for months, and it could be in form strombolian eruption.

According to PVMBG, Mount Bromo is still erupting and emitting volcanic ash. However, the eruption seems to decrease. The height of the smoke is up to 600 meters above the crater.

The smoke is white and dense, directing towards Pasuruan. The slight smell of sulfur could be smelled from the monitoring post. The status is still in the Level II. The safety zone is around 1 kilometer from the crater.

However, this eruption could make Mount Bromo look more beautiful. The tourists could enjoy the exotic smoke of Mount Bromo although there is a decrease in the number of visitors.

 “This is my third visitation. The scenery is more beautiful when there is smoke above the volcano,” said of the visitors who came from Surabaya, Dina Kristiani, on Friday (29/3/2019).

The decrease of the number of visitors is not caused by the eruption. The Head of Lautan Pasir Bromo Resort, Subur, stated that the visitors are increasing in number because it is still on the low session.

“The tourists do not need to worry. The place is still safe to visit even in the post-eruption of Mount Bromo, as long as they do not enter the dangerous zone, which is one kilometer from the crater. Our staff will be on guard every day,” explained Subur. (*)
