Encek-Encek? What and How is It Used by the Local Community of Pujiharjo Malang

MALANG – Lots of people spotted to hold something covered in banana leave on their shoulder at the Pujiharjo, Tirtoyudo, Malang, East Java. Its namely known by the local community as Encek-Encek.
Encek-Encek is some kind of offering consist of rice and some side dishes which is put in a container made of banana stem and covered with banana leaves. This Encek-Encek will be paraded surrounding the village before it's taken to the village hall.
"This ceremony is to celebrate the 87th anniversary of Pujiharho Village. Beside the Encek-Encek the local communities also brought some crops like banana, cassava, corn, rice, and many more," the chief of Pujiharjo village Hendik Arso Marhen said on Tuesday (16/7/2019).
Still according to him, this event was one way to show their gratitude to the Lord for giving them such a wonderful bless to their life through the the good crops and else.
In addition they also held some performance performed by the local communities like some traditional dance etc. It is hope that the Encek-Encek tradition at Pujiharjo Malang one day could be one tourist attraction which will give benefits to the local communities. (*)
