TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – There is an exotic view in Rully Wicaksono yard at Jalan Mbah Joyo, Banaran, Bumiaji, Batu, East Java. There are lots of American Silky (Silkie) chicken with an exotic look running around his yard.

The silkie is is a breed of chicken named for its atypically fluffy plumage, which is said to feel like silk and satin. It looks so different to a regular chicken. Its feathers covered all over the body except its peck and toes.

The breed has several other unusual qualities, such as black skin and bones, blue earlobes, and five toes on each foot, whereas most chickens only have four.

In addition to their distinctive physical characteristics, Silkies are well known for their calm and friendly temperament. It is among the most docile of poultry. This breed is very suitable for children yet they need to be handled with care.

Rully Wicaksono who has more than 8 different breeds of chicken on his house in Batu said that this American Silky (Silkie) could cost around IDR 2 M for the babies and IDR 15 M to IDR 20 M for adults.(*)
