MALANG – Malang has an authentic traditional food namely known as Puthu Lanang. Puthu is a traditional Indonesian cylindrical-shaped steamed cake.
The cake is made of rice flour filled with palm sugar, and steamed in bamboo tubes, and served with grated coconut. This cake is also known by the local community with puthu bamboo.
One of puthu shop in Malang is Puthu Lanang by Bu Supiah which located at Jalan Jaksa Agung Suprapto.To get a box of Puthu Lanang you must to line up for around an hour since there are lots of people love this traditional cake.
"Most of my customers are those millenal who would like to try some traditional taste of Puthu Lanang," Siswoyo the son of Bu Supiah said.
The shop is open daily from 17.30 to 22.00 local western time. You could have the puthu for IDR 10 K per set. The shop also serves another traditional cake such as kelpon, lupis, and cenil.
"I have made this Puthu Lanang shop as my favorite place to go for traditional cake since I was just a student. And now, I take my family to enjoy their marvelous cake," Riska, a local customers of Malang said. (*)
