MALANG Pedicab was firstly built in 1865 by an Amrican named Jonathan Globe. He invented the pedicab for his wife, Eliza Week, to help her walk while she was paralyzed.

The idea came when he went travelling to Japan. He mad ea sketch of a pedicab and sent it to his friend Frabk Pollay. Pollay took the sketch to a blacksmith named Obadiah Wheeler.

There then, the blacksmith with his magical hand turned the sketch into reality named Jinrikisha. Lots of Japanese nobles used this kind of public transportation at that time.

Time to time, the jinrikisha taken and spread allover the world and finally came to Indonesia. The Indonesian modified it into a cycle-rickshaw with three wheels by Seiko-San who lived in Makasar at that time.

In Indonesia this public transportation then so called as becak. It's taken from the Chinese language which mean cart. You could even still found this kind of pedicab in any corner of Indonesia and ask for their service to take you anywhere you like.(*)
