Ngunjung, A Local Tradition in Indramayu During Ramadhan

TIMESINDONESIA, INDRAMAYU – There is an interesting tradition of Mundu village, Karangampel, Indramayu community a day before Ramadhan which is yesterday Thusrday (23/4/2020). This tradition was so called as Ngunjung.

Ngunjung is an activity to visit a local old tomb. Ngunjung taken from the local language means "to visit". The ngunjung tradition normally only held during Ramadhan or when they have certain occasion.

The old tomb they visit belongs to their great great grandparents, Ki Buyut Suyem and Nyi Masniti. "They are the first person who brought Islam to this place," Rijal, the caretaker of the tomb said.

The tomb was located in a public graveyard, a little far fram from entrance. It puts in an old white building with a iron bars door which always been locked.

The people will only sit on the terrace of the building and pray there. The local community of Indramayu mostly will come in the afternoon several days to a day bebefore Ramadhan to do the Ngunjung tradition. (*)
