This food was said brought by Chinese merchant hundred years ago. People commonly called this delicious dish as Lumpia which derived from Chinese language lun which means soft and pia means cake. Little did you know there are several varieties and taste of spring rolls in Indonesia according to their area.
Lumpia Semarang / Semarang spring rolls
This savory snack made of thin crepe pastry skin enveloping a mixture of savory minced bamboo shoots as fillings, boiled egg, and shrimp. The local community of Semarang often serve it in fried or steamed.
Lumpia Jakarta/Jakarta spring rolls
When Semarang spring rolls used bamboo shoots as the filling, Jakarta spring rolls has yam- an edible starchy tuber of a climbing plant that is widely grown in tropical and subtropical countries. Its usually served wit peanut sauce just like when you have the local salad.
