YOGYAKARTA Dawet is a drink made of rice flour jelly, which served with coconut milk and palm sugar. Several people will add some ice tube to get the utmost freshness from it. This drink is a perfect drink to accompany you during a hot day. But if you would like to taste the simplicity of Yogyakarta you could get Dawet Ndeso at Argorejo, Sedayu, Bantul, Yogyakarta.

Tusiyem a 55 year old and her friend Mujiyem a 57 year old are two ladies which offers the freshness of this drink. They both coming to this place and sell this drink under the dense of a Banyan tree with green field on the background.

Lots of people especially those farmers which take a break in the day coming for their dawet to erase their thirst. Some people would also order the dawet to take away and bring it home to share with their family.

Though this place never been quiet from people, Tusiyem and Mujiyem didn’t took achance to raise the price of their product. They only sell it for IDR 2.5 K or around a cent for a glass of refreshing dawet.  

It took a long complicated process to make a bucket of dawet. Tusiyem has to wake up early in the morning to prepare all the thing she need including making the dawet and all the ingredients. “Praise the Lord, I could have around 50 people coming for this drink daily,” Tusiyem said. 

The most interesting part is sometimes Tusiyem and Mujiyem also take a barter payment with a bag of rice if their customers doesn’t have enough money to pay them. “I didn’t plant the rice, but I can taste it, its no big deal for me, it’s a wonderful and a bless,” Tusiyem said while serving her customers with a glass of Dawet Ndeso in Bantul, Yogyakarta.
