RIAU Riau, a province in Indonesia which located in the middle of Sumatra Island. This place was little bit underrated for their numerous forest fire. However, this was because this place has a hotter climate towards another area in Indonesia.

Nevertheless, Riau has dozens of interesting sides from historical place to culinary that you need to know. Let’s check it out.

1. Tingkat Batang Waterfall

Tingkat Batang waterfall located in Lubuk Ambacang, Hulu Kuantan, Kuantan Singingi, Riau. This waterfall has stream that falls into seven stairs of wall and it flows into the flow of the Kuantan River. The height of the waterfall is varied for each grade; the first level of the waterfall to the fourth level reaches a height of between 5-15 meters. Even at a level sixth is reaching a height of about more than 30 m.

2. Oil Rig

Riau has lots of oil rig run under PT Chevron. These oil rig could produce 365.827 barrel per day. Riau also become the biggest producer for palm oil. There are around 2,3 million hectares palm tree orchard lies in this province.

3. Siak Palace

Siak Palace has an exotic Malay, Arabian and European architecture. The Sultan was respected by the foreigners and received lots of western guests at its time. The palace is now transformed into a museum.

The palace complex has an area of about 32,000 square meters consisting of 4 palaces namely Istana Siak, Istana Lima, Istana Padjang, and Istana Baru. Each of the palace including Siak Palace itself has an area of 1,000 square meters.

4. Muara Takus Temple

Muara Takus is a Buddhist temple complex, thought to belong to the Srivijaya empire. Its surviving temples and other archaeological remains are thought to date to the eleventh and twelfth century AD. It is one of the largest and best-preserved ancient temple complexes in Sumatra.

5. Mie Lendir a.k.a Slime Noodle

Its not made of slime, it just a regular noodle, a spaghetti like with peanut and potato starch as the sauce which make it a little bit slimy. The noodle will be served with a sprinkle of spring onions, crackers, and shredded chicken.

6. Roti Canai

In India, this food called as prata. The local community of India will usually serve it as their staple food. Yet, in Indonesia especially Riau this food become a snack that you could find in almost the corner of the city especially in street food stall. It tastes sweet, you could say it as Asian pancake. (*)
