1. The monkey and deer island
South Kalimantan has two small islands which filled with monkeys, or you could say monkeys are the real owner of this island. Those two islands are Kembang and Kaget island. For those who loves to see this exotic primate, those islands are a perfect place to go.

Meanwhile, there is also another island that filled with deer. The local community usually call this island as Rusa Island. Located not far from Riam Kanan dam this island will brings you closer to the nature and its habitant.
2. Lanting house
Lanting is a typical floated house built on the river. You will find hundreds of this kind of house in Kalimantan once you visit the place. The local community will merely make a living by fishing or make use the river as their natural fish pool
3. Floating market
Every morning, there are floating markets where farmers and merchants ply their goods on boats to trade. This has always been a farmer’s market and it’s interesting to see the genuine river-based way of life. Starting in the very early morning right when the fists cock crows this market will be ended at 09.00 morning local western time. You could find it at Muara Kuin and Lok Baintan.
4. Bubungan and Gajah Baliku house
South Kalimantan traditional house called as Bubungan. This house has an exotic local architecture with 4 strong pillars hold the house above the ground. Bubungan was built for the royal family, no wonder there are lots of golden ornaments patched on every corner of the house. Meanwhile, Baliku is a regular traditional Banjarese (the indigenous ethnic group of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan) house for common people.
5. Soto Banjar
Not very far from any soto (chicken soup) in Indonesia, Soto Banjar of South Kalimantan, also rich with taste and refreshing. You could taste the delicious savoury broth in every sip. What makes it different is that it’s usually eaten with rice cake, lontong or ketupat. (*)
