TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTAYosim Pancar is such a fascinating dance originally came from Papua. This dance usually performed to welcome a guest during a visit to Papua. On its place this dance is well known as Yospan, a portmanteau of Yosim Pancar.

The dance itself is one collaboration of two dance, the Yosim and the Pancar. It's usually performed by pairs of youth with a smile and happy face.

Yospan dance symbolized the warmth and hospitality of Papuan. The dance was an acculturation of European dance and local Papuan move. The combination of those two moves makes yospan looks so harmonious and attracting.

The dancers will use typical accessories such as a skirt made of hay. The dancers will paint their face in tribal way. Ukulele and guitar, tifa and bass will be used as the main music instruments.

Yosim Pancar or Yospan usually also performed on certain occasion or traditional ceremonies. It's also performed in some Festival. In some festivals, people even could join the dancers to jog on their feet. (*)
