These Kinds of Tofu could be Found in Indonesia

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Tofu has become a common food you could found anywhere in the country. Little did you know this food actually was a Chinese food. Yet, the local community has explored their culinary skill and creates more variety of delicious tofu. What are they? Let’s check it out.

Firm Tofu

The most common tofu you find in any place in the world. It’s white and has a firm texture. The local community tends to cook it for their companion dish. Some will just deep fry it and eat it as their snack.

Yellow Tofu

This tofu looks so enchanting with its yellow color. The yellow color was obtained from the braising process by adding some turmeric and salt into it. The taste will be good enough without further process of cooking. It commonly could be found in Kediri, East Java.

Tahu Pong or Hollow Tofu

The hollow tofu was a product of tofu after being fried. To get a perfect texture the tofu must be fried in a high temperature which make the tofu has a hard skin and hollow on the inside. This tofu will taste extraordinary when its served with the local delicate sauce which called petis.

Tahu Bulat or Round Tofu

Tahu bulat has the same firm and hollow texture as tahu pong. Yet what makes it different is that this kind of tofu will only be friend when someone orders it. The round shape makes it so called that way, bulat (round).

Tahu Sutera or Silken Tofu

Silken tofu, or you could say as soft tofu was originally came from Japan. As its name, this tofu has a soft texture and will fall apart if you don’t handle it properly. Normally, people will cook it as a dessert such as pudding.

Tahu Susu or Milk Tofu

Some people will add milk on the process of making the tofu. It is known to make the tofu has a soft yet firm texture. It’s not going to fall apart when you cook it yet it will melt in your mouth once you taste it. Those are several tofu you could find in Indonesia. All of them has their own distinctive texture yet they all are delicious. (*)
