Tips on Preventing Motorbike Engine Break Down on Rainy Days
TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Heavy rainfall in several regions in Indonesia has caused floods and puddles on the roads. This can be a major trouble for motorbike riders, causing accidents and even engine break downs.
There are several tips and tricks to avoid engine break downs during the rainy season, as summarized from PT Asuransi Tugu Pratama Indonesia Tbk (Tugu Insurance):
1. Make sure the air filter is not soaked
The air filter prevents dirt to get into the engine. If soaked during the flood, the air filter could be damaged and may cause the engine to stop working. If the water height surpasses the filter’s height, find another alternative. After crossing a flood, it would be best to change the air filter as quickly as possible.
2. Pay attention to spark plugs condition
Deteriorated spark plugs can cause the engine to stop working. Pay attention to your spark plugs right after going out on a rainy day. Make sure the spark plug cover is in dry condition. Coat grease on the spark plugs to prevent water from getting into the combustion system.
3. Check the electrical wiring and carburetor
To avoid engine break downs during your trips, always check your vehicle’s electrical wiring and carburetor conditions. After soaked during floods, dry the carburetor and bring it to the nearest auto shop for a screening.
If your vehicle has already stopped working, bring your beloved motorbike to the nearest auto shop for immediate treatment. (*)
