TIMESINDONESIA, BLORA – Are you craving fro a bowl of hot chicken soup to accompany you during this rainy season in Blora, Central Java? Well, you might need to consider Soto Klethuk Mbah Gowak located one of the corner of the city.

Located at  Jalan Gunung Lawu No 93, next to Tempelan Village Hall, Blora. Make makes the soto more special is that  it has klethuk or mini crispy diced potato sprinkled on top of it before its being served. This makes the chicken taste better and delicious.

The name of the shop was taken after the nickname of the first owner as well the first founder of this chicken soup shop. It's Parto Pasiman a.k.a Mbah Gowak who started the business in 1957. As now he is old enough to run the business, he passes the business to his son, Solikin.

"He was one staff of village administrator back then, yet he always walk around from one village to another to get this Soto Klethuk going on business and to feed the family," Solikin said.

Yes, before establishing a permanent building for his shop, Parto had to walk around from one place to another with a bamboo basket carried on his shoulder. Then he change to a hawker with a push cart. And in 20007, Solikin take over the business and open a Soto Klethuk food shop right in his terrace.

The chicken used for the soto was a free range chicken. It has better taste and texture that those cage or cage free chicken. "We still used the same recipe from time to time, nothing has been changed to keep the taste authentic and bring a childhood memories," Solikin added.

You could either enjoy this dish with rice cake or just plain rice. Some condiments such as innards, fried mashed potato, tempeh, fried egg white, some satays, and crackers are available to accompany you enjoying Soto Klethuk Mbah Gowak of Blora. You could have a set of it for IDR 10 K, condiments excluded. (*)
