Sate Kerbau, the Authentic Taste of Buffalo Satay of Kudus

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Have ypu ever had buffalo on your table? What about tasting it as satay? Well this is what you will easily found in Kudus, Central Java. A buffalo satay restaurant all over the city. And you need drop by these restaurant just to taste it for yourself.
The story when Sunan Kudus, an Islamic religious leader in Kudus ordered the muslim community to not eat any beef in honor to the Hindu that lives in the city. as we know, Hindu sacred the cow as one holy animal for them.

This tradition stood still till now. This makes the local consume more buffalo than beef for their daily basis. No wonder you will find more food shop or restaurant with buffalo meat on their menu.
As its name, buffalo satay were made of buffalo or bison meat. The meat will be crushed with mallet before it being put on the skewer. So basically, it's kind of grinded meat then clipped on the skewers.
The local will only add some sweet soy sauce during the grilling process. For the sauce, this buffalo sate use the phenomenal peanut sauce added which has been adjusted to the local kudus taste by adding fried shredded coconut in to it.

The satay will be served with a nice set of rice put on the teak leaf. The teak leaf gives the rice nice pleasant smell combined with the tasty peanut sauce. Some plain bird eye chili will be served which make you able to adjust the spiciness yourself.
