Spider Web Rice Field, Is This the Home for Those Giant Spiders?

TIMESINDONESIA, NTB – A green lush rice field might have become a common thing to see. But have you ever seen an extreme form of rice field resemble a spider web? Well then you need to check this Spider Web Rice Field at Ruteng, East Nusa Tenggara.
Located at Cancar, Ruteng, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara this spider web rice field was not the only rice field with the same pattern. There were dozens of its kind lies around the area. It's because its part of their tradition.

The rice field was actually belong to cultural land. The cultural bearer which is called as Tu'a Teno in charge of dividing the land into a single field for a family. Before they divide it a ritual must be held to celebrate the event.
The cultural bearer will put a stick in the center of the web then divide the land into pieces. The member of the cultural community will get their share according to their position in the community and also the number of the family.
The higher their position or the more family member they have the larger the share. This means that the cultural bearer will get the biggest share, and the peasant will get the less.
Those who are not belong to the people but live in the area could also have some share. They only need to bring a chicken and some local wine for the cultural bearer.
To be able to enjoy the captivating scenery of lush green rice field you could visit Spider Web Rice Field on April. Meanwhile on May, the lush green rice field will turn to orange and ready to be picked. As in April this exotic form giant spider web will be empty withouot the rice for have been being harvested.
