Apurva Kempinski Hotel, Where Biden-Jinping will Meet in Person

TIMESINDONESIA, BALI – The pinnacle process of the G20 Indonesia Summit will occur for two days, namely on 15-16 November 2022 in the Nusa Dua area of Bali.  The Apurva Kempinski Hotel is the main venue for meetings of state officials at the 2022 Indonesia G20 Summit.

This hotel will be a historical place that will bring together President of the United States Joe Biden and President of China Xi Jinping.  On this hotel they will meet each other in person for the first time. 

The Apurva Kempinski is a five-star hotel where the Biden-Jinping meeting is located on Jalan Raya Nusa Dua Selatan, Badung, Bali.  The hotel surrounds the south side of Bali, about 15 kilometers from Ngurah Rai Airport and 11 kilometers from Garuda Wisnu Kencana.

In the times that TIMES Indonesia journalists went to the location, Friday (11/11/2022), the hotel was heavily guarded by TNI members.  A number of steel armed forces vehicles are also stationed in the hotel area.

In the main lobby, the G20 Indonesia 2022 displayed dashingly surrounded by the flags of the G20 members.  This hotel looks more aesthetic with antique ornaments.  Logos, flags of G20 member countries, and the words Recover Together, Recover Stronger can also be seen at a number of points.

Meanwhile, in the hotel lobby there is a place to relax and a semi-open meeting room with a beautiful view that is directly on the beach view.

From the hotel, you can see the ocean front lawn area where a dome made of bamboo was built, specifically for this event.  The dome, which symbolizes Indonesia's commitment to a green economy, is planned to be the backdrop for family photos of the G20 heads of state.

This hotel stands on a cliff with architecture that is believed to take inspiration from Besakih Temple, because its shape resembles a temple with steps.

Reporting from Kata Data, architect Budiman Hendropurnomo and interior design Rudi Dodo combined traditional elements and modern touches, by prioritizing the diversity of Indonesian culture.  This can be seen from the typical Javanese weaving and woodcarving works with various statues and works of art that are pleasing to the eye.

Furthermore, the first day of the G20 Summit, President Joko Widodo will welcome the heads of the G20 member countries to start the Summit. Then, there will be several bilateral meetings between countries which will take place in separate rooms, still in the area of The Apurva Kempinski.

A group photo session and lunch for heads of state will take place openly on the Ocean Front Lawn of Apurva.  The first day of the series of summits took place at the hotel.

On the second day of theG20 Indonesia Summit, state leaders will visit the Tahura mangrove forest.  They were expected to perform a mangrove planting ceremony there. (*)
