This title was given based on their role in creating and supporting some peaceful atmosphere between one another in the country. Though the process took a more than two years, but this was worth the wait.

"The honorary degree represents a harmony live between religions and their believers," the Rector of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta said on Monday (13/2/2023).

What the Religious Leader has Done Towards the Community

Cardinal Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot was the first deputy of Vatican who managed to build a great communication with Ahmed el-Tayeb, a Grand Imam of Al-Azhar mosque in Cairo, Egypt. The communication was stopped due to some clash for several years since 2011.

"One of the great things he made was the sign of declaration on human fraternity by Pope Francis and Grand Imam Al Azhar," he added.

Meanwhile KH Yahya was known to be a respected figure that fought for human rights and world peace. He has been well known by the world and had been attending some international events as a native speaker, one of them is an American Jewish Committee Forum.

As for Sudibyo Markus, this guy was the Head of Muhammadiyah community in 2005-2010. He was known as a person who could bring the differences to sit together in one table and managed to introduce the friendly and kind side of Islam yet still respecting others in practicing his belief.

This honorary degree was expected to bring everyone together in harmony and create some solidarity and peace amongst everyone. UIN Sunan Kalijaga expects that there will be more people rising up and follow the path the three religious leaders have made. (*)
