Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul of Kediri and Its Exotic Pattern

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul, a woven product originally came from Kediri, one of a regency in East Java, Indonesia has been one exotic thing to have and to see. This Tenun (woven product) has gained so much attention from the local community for its exotic pattern and traditional value.
Even film producer Hati Suhita Chand Parwez is interested in incorporating the woven fabric made by craftsmen from Bandar Kidul as one of the elements in his film production.

"We hope this will be an inspiration for the craftsmen in Bandar Kidul. We are pleased if the film production utilizes Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul," Chairwoman of Dekranasda (National Crafts Council) of Kediri City, Ferry Silviana Abdullah Abu Bakar, stated on Saturday (11/5/2023).
While not mentioning the specific film, Chand Parwez intends to feature Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul as a costume in an upcoming film. The costumes made from Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul will be tailored to suit the characters in the film.
Chand Parwez himself has witnessed the process of making Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul. At that time, Chand Parwez was accompanied by director Archi Hekagery, novelist Ning Khilma Anis, scriptwriter Alim Sudio, and the cast of the film Hati Suhita.
"In a film production, costumes play a role. God willing, I will try to bring in this woven fabric that has strong cultural value," he said.
Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul Suit to any Age
Chand Parwez mentioned that the design and motifs of Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul are still well-received by the current generation. He believes that the younger generation will fall in love with wearing Tenun Ikat.
"The production process is unique. It has a different and retro appearance. It's wonderful that in this era, we still have something classic like this," he said.
Chand Parwez hopes that Tenun Ikat Bandar Kidul can be further developed. There is tremendous potential because this fabric carries a strong cultural heritage.
"I purchased a considerable amount for my children and future sons-in-law. I am truly impressed with the efforts of Kediri City in preserving this woven fabric," he added.
In addition to being interested inTenun Ikat Bandar Kidul, Chand Parwez is no stranger to Kediri City. He has already produced two films, Yowes Ben 3 and Hati Suhita, which were set in Kediri City and the latter recently premiered in Kediri. (*)
