Pilgrims Appealed to Get Wheelchair Services from the Masjidil Haram Authorities

TIMESINDONESIA, MAKKAH – Head of Makkah Task Force (Daker), Khalilurahman, has appealed to pilgrims who are unable to perform the tawaf and sai (rituals) on foot to use the wheelchair services provided by the officials of Masjidil Haram. This appeal comes after an incident where four senior pilgrims, who were using wheelchairs, were stopped by the guards of Masjidil Haram for using unauthorized pushers during tawaf on Sunday (4th June). 

They were briefly detained and underwent an examination. They came from the Jakarta Pondok Gede Embarkation. Before they could complete the tawaf, the guards of Masjidil Haram approached them. Unfortunately, the unidentified pushers of the wheelchairs immediately fled, leaving the pilgrims behind.

The four pilgrims had to stay seated on their wheelchairs in the middle of the tawaf area. The hajj officers responsible for the protection of the pilgrims then negotiated with the guards of Masjidil Haram. It was revealed that the pilgrims had used unauthorized wheelchair services. 

Finally, the four pilgrims were allowed to continue the tawaf using the official wheelchair services provided by Masjidil Haram.

Khalilurahman added that pilgrims who feel confused can seek assistance from the hajj officers stationed at various points. "If they use unofficial services, the mosque officials have the right to stop them," he said.

Furthermore, Khalilurahman also explained that there are official wheelchair rental services available at Masjidil Haram. The rates vary, with a package for umrah and sai costing 350 riyals per person. For tawaf only, the rates range from 175 to 250 riyals per person. If one wishes to perform sai only, the rate is 150 riyals per person.

In addition to wheelchairs, there are also scooter rental services at more affordable rates. For a package of tawaf and sai using a scooter, the rate is 115 riyals per person. For tawaf only using a scooter, the rate is 57.5 riyals, and for sai only using a scooter, the rate is also 57.5 riyals per person.

With this being said, it is hoped that pilgrims in need of assistance will utilize the official wheelchair services provided by the officials of Masjidil Haram. This is also a measure to prevent the use of unauthorized services that may disrupt the smooth implementation of worship at Masjidil Haram. (*)
