Abon Premium: A Delectable Culinary Delight from Ponorogo

TIMESINDONESIA, PONOROGO – In the heart of Ponorogo, East Java, Abon Premium stands tall as a perfect choice for a savory and delightful souvenir. This culinary gem has been synonymous with Ponorogo since 1980, with its taste meticulously preserved over the years.
Abon, a popular delicacy in Indonesia, bears a striking resemblance to beef floss, a well-known savory treat in other parts of the world. Both abon and beef floss are savory, dried, and shredded meat products that have won the hearts of many culinary enthusiasts.

Farida Rosvita Sari is the mastermind behind Abon Premium, crafting the delicacy using a traditional recipe that has been passed down through generations. Since the early 2000s, she has been managing Abon Premium, ensuring that the delectable flavor, distinctive meaty aroma, and delightful crunch remain consistent.
"In the past, this delicacy had no name, but as time went on, we decided to name it Abon Premium. We only use 100% pure beef and strictly adhere to the original ancestral recipe, ensuring that the taste of beef shines through in every bite," Farida Rosvita Sari shared with TIMES Indonesia on a pleasant Saturday (5/8/2023).
The cooking process of the abon is also a matter of pride for Farida. She exclusively uses traditional wood-burning stoves, as experimenting with gas stoves proved to yield different results. Farida's secret to keeping her abon a crowd-pleaser lies in preserving the original recipe and never compromising the quality of the meat.
"Even with the fluctuating beef prices, Abon Premium never compromises its quality," she added.
Farida proudly reveals that Abon Premium is a family endeavor. "Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), orders keep pouring in. We handle the marketing of Abon Premium ourselves, and our orders have reached several cities in East Java and Central Java," Farida shared.
For Farida, abon is the perfect ready-to-eat meal when served with steaming hot rice. "In the urban areas, people often seek simplicity and quick meals, and abon fits the bill perfectly. We also offer a spicy variant of abon for those who enjoy a little heat," she elaborated.
The success of Abon Premium knows no borders, as it has reached international markets as well. "It's not an export system, but rather we entrust our product as part of the luggage for travelers heading overseas, such as Taiwan and Hong Kong," Farida proudly mentioned.
Every two days, Farida produces around 30 kilograms of Abon Premium. However, during special occasions like holidays and Ramadan, the production may quadruple.
"A box of Abon Premium, weighing 250 grams, is priced at Rp80,000. Orders can be made directly at ACC Meat Shop in Kauman Somoroto Ponorogo," Farida Rosvita Sari warmly shared. (*)
