Exploring Mount Menyan: Banyuwangi's Aerial Wonderland

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Mount Menyan or Gunung Menyan, located in the village of Kalibaru Wetan, Kalibaru District, Banyuwangi, East Java, has become a cherished spot for paragliding and hang gliding enthusiasts, both local and national. And rightfully so, as being at this elevation means being surrounded by nothing but the sheer beauty of nature.

This place is situated in Petak 3C, RPH Malangsari, BKPH Genteng, within the Perhutani KPH Banyuwangi Selatan region. Despite its mountainous label, it's not far from the national highway, just about 2 kilometers away. You can easily reach the location via a two-wheeler or a car.

Hence, it's no wonder that this mount is often referred to as Banyuwangi's aerospace tourism paradise. Although relatively new, various paragliding events have already been held here, drawing large crowds of participants. With its breathtaking views, this spot has captivated air sports athletes and left them yearning to return.

Wahyu Dwi Hadmojo, the Head Administrator (ADM) of Perhutani KPH Banyuwangi Selatan, expressed strong support for this place as a paragliding spot. In addition to its role as a tourist attraction and event location, he hopes that the local area can also be utilized for nurturing paragliding athletes.

"On behalf of the management and the company, we are delighted to contribute to the development of paragliding sports and support the growth of Banyuwangi's tourism sector," he said on Saturday (26/8/2023).

Wahyu also hopes that the presence of the paragliding spot at this mountain will have a positive impact on the local economy. Especially since paragliding is a beloved sport, not just among Indonesians but also internationally.

Prior to this, senior paragliding athlete Pungky expressed hope that Mount Menyan could serve as an asset for developing the younger generation. Especially in nurturing new talents in paragliding.

"Hopefully, with the Mount Menyan venue, it can become the embryo of aerospace tourism in Banyuwangi. Its potential is great and it's also suitable for triathlon sports. We acknowledge that," he added.

As a little sneak peek, besides being a favorite paragliding venue, Mount Menyan is also adored by nature lovers for camping. From the summit of Gunung Menyan, they can not only enjoy the beauty of the sunrise but also the enchanting sunset. (*)
