TIMESINDONESIA, BERLIN – The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Berlin has taken a proactive role in fostering discussions about unity and harmony amidst global adversities. Collaborating with prominent Indonesian entities such as PP Muhammadiyah, Wahid Foundation, and The Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations, the embassy aims to bring to the forefront Indonesia's rich tapestry of diversity and the nation's longstanding commitment to unity.

Ambassador Arif Havas Oegroseno of the Republic of Indonesia to the Federal Republic of Germany commenced the session, emphasizing Indonesia's journey, a nation celebrated for its vibrant cultures, languages, and religious beliefs. A journey that, despite its diversities, has championed the spirit of 'Bhinneka Tunggal Ika' or 'Unity in Diversity' for over 78 years since its independence.

In this significant gathering, three revered Indonesian figures shared their insights. Prof. Abdul Mu'ti, General Secretary of PP Muhammadiyah, spotlighted the pivotal role of education in instilling harmonious values. He advocated for a reinvigorated approach to teaching younger generations about mutual respect and unity in a pluralistic society.

Yenny Wahid, the founder of the Wahid Foundation and daughter of the late President Abdurrahman Wahid, shared her father's enduring legacy in promoting interfaith harmony. She touched upon the modern challenges to harmony, especially in the digital age, urging the present generation to uphold and further the legacy of understanding and peace.

Deep diving into global perspectives on harmony, Prof. Din Syamsuddin, Chairperson of the Center for Dialogue and Cooperation among Civilizations, stressed that unity is not solely Indonesia's concern but a global responsibility. Given the world's current adversities, from wars to economic disparities and environmental crises, unity stands paramount in devising sustainable solutions.

All these prominent figures converged in Berlin for the "The Audacity of Peace: International Meeting for Peace – Religions and Cultures in Dialogue" conference hosted by the Sant'Egidio Community. This three-day conference delved into pressing global concerns, resonating with the discussions held at the KBRI Berlin.

However, the consensus was clear - unity remains indispensable. Indonesia's showcase of unity, with its vast ethnolinguistic groups, religions, and cultures, stands as a testament to the world. But challenges persist, and as the world evolves, the dialogue in KBRI Berlin stands as a beacon, reminding its global audience of the vigilance needed to protect harmony.

Ambassador Oegroseno concluded with a heartfelt message for the Indonesian diaspora across Germany and beyond, urging them to be ambassadors of peace and harmony and to continually champion the ethos of 'Bhinneka Tunggal Ika'. (*)
