Sengkuyung Bumiaji: A Community-Driven Initiative to Transform Batu Tourism Village

BATU – In the heart of Indonesia, within the enchanting landscape of Bumiaji, Batu, East Java, Indonesia lies a remarkable initiative known as Sengkuyung Bumiaji. The name derives its spirit from the Javanese word Sengkuyung which translates to together or collaboration.

This initiative, born out of the Bumiaji district, has set out on a mission to build a thriving tourist village, harnessing the existing potential of the village for communal prosperity.

The program, which unfolds in the village of Sumberbrantas, takes a systematic approach, with a key focus on strengthening human resources in the field of tourism.

It aims to awaken the local community to the economic potential of tourism, empower them with the skills to package their offerings attractively, and undertake extensive publicity efforts.

One tangible result of these endeavors is the establishment of Café Sawang Alam within the Brakseng Tourist Area.

"We encourage our residents to recognize the tourism potential that not only brings economic value but also requires appealing packaging and extensive publicity," Bambang Hari Suliyan SSTP, the Camat (District Head) of Bumiaji, said (2/10/2023).

He also added that one of the concrete outcomes is the establishment of Café Sawang Alam in the Brakseng Tourist Area.

Susetya Herawan, the Assistant to the Mayor of Batu City, who oversees the Governance and Community Welfare sector, applauded the innovative steps taken by the Bumiaji district.

Herawan is optimistic about the sustainable growth of this initiative, foreseeing it as a means to generate village revenue while improving the overall well-being of the local community.

"Most importantly, the presence of this program contributes to the environmental sustainability of Brakseng, ensuring the conservation of its land," he uttered.

In addition he also said that during the discussions it was also highlighted that there should be a strengthening of the Traditional Institutions to uphold the local traditions and preserve agricultural areas.

Sengkuyung Bumiaji is not just a tourism initiative. It's more to a testament to the power of collective effort and community-driven development. As it continues to blossom, this initiative promises to uplift both the local economy and the spirit of the community, preserving the natural beauty of Batu City for generations to come.
