This collaboration represents the commitment of Universitas Terbuka and PPI Dunia to advance education in Indonesia. The MoU covers cooperative relations in education, community service, scholarships for further education, distance education services (online), and research collaboration.
PPI Dunia is an organization of Indonesian students abroad, connecting approximately 120,000 students across 65 PPI countries. This network promises extensive resources for cross-country study and research development.
Hamzah Assuudy Lubis, Coordinator of PPI Dunia for the 2023/2024 term, revealed that this collaboration would open opportunities for international students to develop their potential in research and encourage educational progress in Indonesia.
As the international education system differs from the Indonesian system in terms of both educational methods and bureaucracy, these differences often pose challenges for foreign graduates seeking to contribute in Indonesia. Some pursue double-degree programs online while studying abroad, with Universitas Terbuka serving as a reference for online courses.
Hamzah hopes that with this MoU, Universitas Terbuka can become a platform for international graduates to continue advanced studies, pursue careers, and collaborate with students and alumni abroad in research and development.
Prof. Ojat Darojat, M.Bus., Ph.D., the Rector of Universitas Terbuka, expressed that collaborating with PPI Dunia promises the development of multidisciplinary studies at Universitas Terbuka. Many study programs that are rarely offered in some Indonesian universities can be found at Universitas Terbuka. The collaboration with PPI Dunia promises competent resources to fill these programs.
"This collaborative relationship will open up broader opportunities for research in the future. Considering the knowledge gained by international students differs from that of students at Universitas Terbuka," stated Prof. Ojat.
Prof. Ojat, as he is fondly called, added that this collaboration also demonstrates Universitas Terbuka's open-handedness toward international graduates. Universitas Terbuka aims to be a welcoming partner for foreign graduates when they return to Indonesia.
With the signing of this MoU, both parties, Universitas Terbuka and PPI Dunia hope that this relationship will bring progress to education for both students abroad and Universitas Terbuka. (*)
