PMTOH Collaborates with Wayang for Historic "Pohon Hayat Malahayati" Performance in Aceh
TIMESINDONESIA, ACEH – In an unprecedented cultural event, the local art form PMTOH joined forces with the renowned Wayang Ruwatan Nusantara, stunning the residents of Sigli, Pidie. This performance, hosted at the Pidie Convention Centre, marks a historic first for Aceh's cultural scene, drawing thousands to witness the fusion of Aceh's traditional dances like Saman, Ratoeh Jaroe, Sedati, and Sholawat with the epic Wayang storytelling.
Bustami, a prominent cultural figure in Aceh, expressed immense pride in the collaboration. "Art and culture are the soul of Indonesia. Having Mbah Tejo, a legendary Wayang puppeteer, narrate the 'Pohon Hayat Malahayati' story is a great honor," he remarked.

The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the Indonesian national anthem, followed by a series of performances combining traditional Aceh arts and Wayang, all to the lively accompaniment of Gucheng and Serunai Kali music.

The event is part of a larger initiative by the Daulat Budaya Nusantara movement, aiming to celebrate and preserve Indonesia's cultural sovereignty through performances across nine locations, with Pidie being the fifth.
Dr. Teguh Haryono, a scholar in defense studies, emphasized the importance of cultural preservation as a form of national resilience, noting the culinary delights and rich cultural reception in Aceh. The event also featured interactive sessions with the audience, highlighting Aceh's unique attributes, from its beautiful women to its rich culinary heritage and history of independence.
