TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Google's music streaming service, YouTube Music, has upgraded its music listening experience on desktop applications by allowing users to download music and listen to it offline.

Previously, YouTube Music only offered offline music listening through its mobile application, but it is now extending this feature to its desktop application as well.

According to GizChina's report on Sunday (March 31), users of the desktop application will now be able to save playlists for offline listening.

YouTube Music has been testing this feature on its desktop application for some time, but initially, only a small number of users were part of the testing phase.

It appears that the feature has now been rolled out to more users, although the launch may be gradual.

Some users have already received a notification message saying "New! Download music for offline listening." This message appears next to the "Library" tab in the web application.

If users receive this message, it means that their YouTube Music desktop application is now enabled to download songs for offline listening.

Saving songs in the YouTube Music desktop application is straightforward: users need to navigate to the desired song or album and click the download button, which should be located between the "Save to library" and the three-dot menu button.

Similar to the mobile application, all downloaded songs will appear in the "Downloads" tab within the "Library" section.

Users can also utilize the filter feature to sort songs, artists, albums, or playlists as per their preference.

YouTube Music has made searching for songs easier with its new song recognition feature, allowing users to find songs by playing, singing, or humming them.

According to Phone Arena's report on Monday, YouTube employs artificial intelligence to match the sound with the original recording. This feature works similarly to the hum-to-search feature in Google Search.

To use the latest search feature in YouTube Music, users need to tap on the search icon in the top right corner first. Additionally, there's a dedicated button with the same icon design as the song search feature on YouTube, positioned next to the voice search option for quicker access.

In the main YouTube app, the song search feature has also been available on Android for some time. To use it, users simply initiate a search and tap on the "Songs" tab, instead of "Voice."

Unlike YouTube, some YouTube Music users on iOS already have similar capabilities, meaning this feature is not exclusive to Android.

Although YouTube and YouTube Music are both owned by Google, they serve different purposes. YouTube is a platform for discovering all types of videos, including music videos, movies, tutorials, vlogs, and more. Meanwhile, YouTube Music is specifically for streaming music and podcasts.

With each new feature, the YouTube Music app aims to capture a larger market share. YouTube Music and YouTube Premium recently surpassed 100 million subscribers worldwide.

While services like Apple Music or Spotify don't offer built-in features for song recognition by humming or listening, both integrate with Shazam, an app launched by Apple to help users identify songs. (*)
