Fetih Kupası: Indonesia Triumphs at the 12th Conquest Cup 2024

TIMESINDONESIA, SURABAYA – The Indonesian flag soared triumphantly at the 12th Conquest Cup 2024 or known as "Fetih Kupası" in Turkish, organized by the Okçular Foundation on Tuesday, May 29, 2024, in Istanbul, Turkey. This victory was marked by the success of archers Mutasar Bin Hazbi from Aceh and Achmad Syahrul Uman from Surabaya, who secured the first and second positions in the men's traditional archery category, commemorating the 571st anniversary of the conquest of Constantinople by Sultan Mehmed II.
Fetih Kupası is an international traditional archery tournament held annually in Istanbul to celebrate the historical conquest of the city by Sultan Mehmed II in 1453. This event aims to honor Turkish cultural heritage and traditional sports through competitive archery. The 2024 tournament, being the 12th edition, highlighted the continuity and popularity of this event within the international traditional archery community.

Participants from various countries compete in different traditional archery categories. Besides the competition, the event often includes cultural demonstrations, exhibitions, and other activities promoting Turkish cultural and historical heritage.
The Indonesian delegation demonstrated strong optimism for winning gold, evidenced by their top scores among over 500 participants from 32 countries in the semifinals. In the final round, Indonesia faced tough competition from Hungary but ultimately secured the top podium positions. Hungarian delegate Koczka Laszko had to settle for the bronze medal as the top two positions were claimed by Mutasar and Irul.
The preparation of the Indonesian delegation for this international event was extensive and rigorous. According to Zainuddin, who spoke to PPI Turkey journalists, the selection process was stringent, ensuring only the best athletes represented Indonesia. “They are truly the chosen ones from the regional athlete selection process,” Zainuddin stated.
The international nature of this competition makes it highly anticipated among Indonesian archery communities, including the Sunnah Sport Community (SSC). The Nusantara Furusiyyesi (Nufus), an Indonesian archery community in Turkey, served as a bridge for Indonesian communities to participate in this prestigious international competition.
During the event, Indonesian supporters, known for their unique characteristics, filled the stands, cheering and boosting the morale of the competing Indonesian delegation. The presence of Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, an important Turkish official and son of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, added to the event's significance.
The attendance of the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Istanbul, Darianto Harsono, also added to the excitement. “I thank Mutasar, Irul, and the other delegates for bringing glory to Indonesia. The Consulate General will always be a bridge for Indonesian athletes and citizens to bring honor to the nation,” he remarked.
