JAKARTA – Indonesian Hajj 2026 pilgrims heading from Madinah to Makkah are being strongly encouraged to organize their luggage carefully. They also urged to avoid carrying excessive baggage, as transport officials warn that overpacking can disrupt mobility and inconvenience fellow worshippers.
Muslih, Head of Transportation Section for the Madinah Hajj Working Area (Daker Madinah), emphasized that every pilgrim is only allowed to carry one large suitcase, one cabin bag, and one passport bag under official regulations. He stressed that bringing extra items could create serious logistical challenges during the movement between holy sites.
“When pilgrims carry excessive luggage, it can take up space meant for others who have complied with the rules,” Muslih said. “This is a shared concern that requires discipline from all pilgrims," Muslih said (30/4/2026).

1. Follow Official Baggage Limits Strictly
Pilgrims should ensure their belongings fit within the approved baggage categories to avoid transportation issues. Overloaded luggage can delay departures and complicate bus loading arrangements.
2. Use Cargo Services for Extra Shopping Items
Muslih advised pilgrims who plan to shop for souvenirs or gifts in Saudi Arabia to take advantage of available cargo shipping services around hotel areas in Madinah rather than carrying extra bags themselves.
“Pilgrims can still shop, but additional items should ideally be sent through cargo services so they do not become a burden during mobilization,” he explained.
3. Prioritize Essential Items Only
Pilgrims are encouraged to pack light by focusing on necessities such as clothing, medication, travel documents, and personal hygiene products, reducing unnecessary strain throughout the pilgrimage.
4. Prepare Early for Return Flight Restrictions
Muslih also reminded pilgrims that baggage rules will become even stricter when returning to Indonesia, as airlines enforce firm weight restrictions. Poor luggage planning now could lead to complications later.
