No-Tipping Culture Strengthened for Hajj 2026 to Protect Indonesian Pilgrims

MAKKAH – Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) has officially strengthened a strict no-tipping policy for Hajj 2026. This ensures that all Indonesian pilgrims receive fair, transparent, and corruption-free services during their pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

The regulation clearly prohibits all Hajj officers from requesting or accepting any form of gratuity, cash reward, or personal compensation from pilgrims under any circumstances. This initiative is part of a broader national commitment to improving the quality, integrity, and professionalism of Hajj services for millions of Indonesian Muslims. 

Official Wheelchair and Mobility Services Must Be Free

Kemenhaj spokesperson Maria Assegaf emphasized that official wheelchair assistance and mobility services provided by the Indonesian Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) are fully standardized and based solely on pilgrims’ needs, particularly for elderly and disabled worshippers.

Every pilgrim receiving wheelchair support as well as every assigned officer, must carry an official control card issued by PPIH to guarantee accountability and prevent misuse. This system aims to eliminate illegal service fees, overcharging, and unauthorized assistance providers operating outside official channels.

Maria firmly stated that officers are absolutely forbidden from soliciting or receiving any form of payment from pilgrims.

“All officers are strictly prohibited from asking for or accepting compensation in any form from pilgrims,” she stressed during the ministry’s official press conference.

Kemenhaj warned that any form of extortion, unofficial service fees, or unauthorized tipping practices will result in serious disciplinary sanctions according to national regulations. 

Pilgrims Encouraged to Report Violations

To support the no-tipping culture, Indonesian pilgrims are urged to use only official services and immediately report suspicious behavior, unauthorized personnel, or illegal payment requests.

Authorities have also reminded pilgrims to recognize official Indonesian Hajj officers through their uniforms and identification cards to avoid scams or fraudulent service providers.

The no-tipping policy for Hajj 2026 reflects Indonesia’s broader mission to create a safer, more humane, and spiritually focused pilgrimage. By removing hidden fees and unethical practices, pilgrims can concentrate fully on worship without financial exploitation.
