This strategic project carries an investment value of approximately USD 5 billion, or around Rp88 trillion, covering an estimated 30 hectares in the Teluk Mata Ikan area, Nongsa, Batam.

“BP Batam is ensuring investment certainty, accelerated services, and industrial area readiness. PLN Batam is ensuring energy preparedness. This collaboration demonstrates that Batam is ready to become Indonesia’s AI & Digital Gateway connected to the global ecosystem,” said Fary.

He further added that the EGSB project is expected to become an anchor investment capable of attracting other strategic industries, including cloud computing, semiconductor ecosystems, AI services, and various global digital industries.

In addition to strengthening Batam’s position within the international digital industrial chain, the investment is projected to generate broad economic impact through the creation of professional employment opportunities, technology transfer, enhancement of local human resource competitiveness, and sustainable digital economic growth.

EGSB is expected to employ approximately 700–800 professionals in the data centre and digital technology sectors through collaborative recruitment and talent development programs with universities in Batam.

BP Batam views the synergy between government institutions, energy providers, industry players, and educational institutions as a crucial foundation in building Batam into a modern, competitive, and world-class national digital economic growth center.

“Batam is no longer developing solely as a manufacturing industrial zone, but is transforming into an Execution Hub of Global Digital Industry,” Fary concluded. (*)
