UNJ Becomes Indonesian Campus Visited By French President Emmanuel Macron During His State Visit

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – French President Emmanuel Macron visited Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) on May 28, 2025, on the agenda of “Conversation with the Indonesian Young People”. UNJ became the only campus in Indonesia visited by French President Emmanuel Macron with several high-ranking French state officials in a series of state visit in Indonesia which lasted for three days on May 27-29, 2025.
The visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to UNJ is a significant development in the ongoing bilateral relations between Indonesia and France, particularly in the areas of education and culture. President Emmanuel Macron's attendance at UNJ signifies a multifaceted commitment to academic collaboration, underscoring the institution's pivotal role in fostering international relations through educational exchange.

The visit of the French President signifies the acknowledgement of UNJ as an educational institution of consequence, thereby establishing the foundation for the expansion of collaborative opportunities in the domain of education between Indonesia and France. Furthermore, Prof. Komarudin said that this visit emphasized UNJ's commitment to open wider spaces for international collaboration, especially through student and lecturer exchanges, joint curriculum development, and cross-country research that has a direct impact on global challenges. We are pleased to have the opportunity to welcome President Macron on our campus. Our campus has been a space for cross-cultural dialogue to grow, including through the French Language Education Study Program and various Francophonie initiatives that have been running with the support of the French Embassy in Indonesia.
