TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – Hotel Tugu Malang once again celebrates the meaningful Chinese New Year 2576 in an atmosphere of joy, presenting the “Welcoming The Wood Snake Year-Peranakan Heritage Feast” at Melati Restaurant and SaigonSan Garden Café by Kawisari 1870. This celebration highlights special Babah Peranakan dishes that blend the rich cultures of Chinese and Malay, available from January 25 to February 28, 2025.

Babah Peranakan cuisine originates from the fusion of Chinese and Malay cultures, particularly in the Melaka and Singapore regions, later spreading to parts of Indonesia such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Semarang. The menu offers not only exceptional Chinese New Year dishes but also demonstrates how cultural fusion can create something unique and flavorful.

“This year’s Chinese New Year brings luck and good wishes, especially for the Chinese community. At Hotel Tugu Malang, we aim to provide an exceptional culinary experience through traditional Babah Peranakan dishes, served in a warm atmosphere,” said Budi Sesario, Media Relation of Hotel Tugu Malang.

One of the standout dishes is the Salmon Prosperity Toss Yu Sheng, which can be enjoyed by 4 or 8 people. This dish encourages guests to toss the ingredients as high as possible, symbolizing hopes for greater fortune in the coming year. It’s the perfect way to start your New Year celebration, bringing luck and extraordinary flavors to the table.

In addition to Yu Sheng, guests can enjoy unique dishes such as Pastel Toetoep, a Dutch-influenced potato pie, or Garang Asem Bandeng Blimbing Woeloeh, a sour and sweet fish soup enhanced with tamarind. For a main dish that will delight the taste buds, there’s Nasi Campur Babah, a plate of pandan rice served with crispy fried shrimp, chicken, marinated beef, and a signature Babah sambal. Another delicious option is Kerapu Macan Curry Be Hoon, a fish soup made with grouper and curry-flavored noodles.

To end the celebration, indulge in traditional Babah desserts such as Kue Keranjang or Nian Gao, a symbol of luck, or try The Old Secret of Ms. Fung's Pudding. Each dish is not only flavorful but also carries deep meaning, bringing prosperity, success, and love in this Year of the Wood Snake.
