The 2023 ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum Has Begun

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – The 2023 ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum with the theme “ASEAN Matters – Centre of Growth, Opportunities & Prosperity” was held from 11-12 May at the Le Meridien Jakarta. 

The forum was organized by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI), ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), Kamar Dagang dan Industri Indonesia (KADIN), ASEAN Economic Club (AEC), and Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI), the event was supported by the Economic Club of Kuala Lumpur (ECKL) and World Business Chamber (WBC).

The ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum 2023 is a leading forum organised annually by KSI that bring together Leaders from Government, Business, Think Tanks and Civil Society. The Forum updated participants on the major trends, key issues and business and investments opportunities in ASEAN. The Forum also engaged civil society organizations and Think Tanks on the way forward for sustainable and inclusive development.

This year under the chairmanship of Indonesia and with the theme of ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth, the region aims to build the institutional capacity and effectiveness of ASEAN to ensure faster growth, inclusivity, and economic sustainability.

The event saw the participation of nearly 300 attendees from ASEAN countries and beyond. It was graced by esteemed guests of honours, including H.E. Dr. (H.C.) H. Mochamad Ridwan Kamil, S.T., M.U.D., Governor of West Java, Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Dr. Chhem Kieth Rethy, Minister Delegate, Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Cambodia, and H.E. Sandiaga Uno, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesia.

The event featured insightful and thought-provoking discussions on various topics related to ASEAN's growth and prosperity, including the te Special Roundtable Dialogue. Session 1 focused on ASEAN connectivity, challenges, and the way forward, while Session 2 discussed prioritizing food security challenges and climate sustainability in ASEAN and the partnership between government, business, and civil society. Session 3 shed light on ASEAN digital transformation, increasing connectivity to drive economic growth, and Session 4 explored energy transition and shaping the ASEAN Green Deal for sustainability and prosperity.

The event also featured the presentation of Outstanding ASEAN Leadership Excellence Awards, which celebrated individuals who have made significant contributions to ASEAN's growth and prosperity. 

In his welcome remarks, Tan Sri Majid Khan, Chairman of KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific, Malaysia, and Dr. Dino Patti Djalal, Founder of Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) and Co-Chair of ASEAN Economic Club/Former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Indonesia, expressed their gratitude to all participants and emphasized that the ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum was an excellent platform for stakeholders to come together to discuss and evaluate the strategic challenges facing ASEAN.

Mr. M. Arsjad Rasjid P. M. Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KADIN), Co-Chairman of ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum (ALPF), and Chair of the ASEAN-BAC, also delivered the welcome speech on the second day of the forum. 

Overall, the ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum was a resounding success. With the support of regional partnerships, the region is well on its way to achieving faster growth, inclusivity, and economic sustainability. (*)
