Tiban, an Old Ritual to Ask for Some Rain to The Lord that Still been Executed till Now

TIMESINDONESIA, BLITAR – Tiban is tradition which has become a ritual for Javanese such as Blitar society. This ritual is executed as their sacrifice to the lord for the rain to drop on their land.
This tradition which occasionally held on every summer will need two people whipping on each other's friend back with a rattan or a whip like the people of Blitar did on Tuesday (24/9/2019).

The blood dropped from their body was believed to be able to drop the rain from the sky. There were around 4 referees watching the game going and be aware if something bad happened such as a collapsed player on the ring.
It's kind of scary and heartbreaking to see two people hurting each other till they bleed on the ring. But the local people think it's a good way to sacrifice every blood they dropped in exchange for the rain.
"Its not merely about the violence by hurting each other's body in the ring, but it's more the their sacrifice to the lord. Also, this ritual held annually to preserve the local culture," Sukadi, the event director said.
The Tiban Ritual in Centong, Sawentar, Kanigoro Blitar will be held for 15 days on (September 24th to Oktober 8th 2019) every 14.00 to 16.00 local western time. You need to pay nothing to be able to watch this tradition since it's for free. But you may donate some money for the local mosque renovation in the donation box provided. (*)
