The Active Mount Inerie Has an Eye-Catching Panorama

TIMESINDONESIA, WAINGAPU – Despite the active status, Mount Inerie located in the southern area of Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) does not lose its beauty.

Mount Inerie has a very eye-catching panorama. The traditional houses, Bena, and the farm fields along the slope add more beauty to the mountain.

Mount Inerie is the biggest active stratovolcano in Flores Island, 2,245 meters above sea level. Its last eruption was in 1970.

Mount Inerie is famous for its eye-catching beauty and its harmonic pyramid shape. That’s why this mountain is also called as the Pyramid of the Nature.

According to Fitalis Latu, one of the locals in Ngada, Flores, Mount Inerie was derived from two words, namely ‘Ine’, which means mother, and ‘rie’, which means beautiful. In other words, Inerie means a beautiful mother.

Fitalis said that this mountain does not show any harmful volcanic activities.

In the clear sky, the beautiful peak of the mountain can be seen from Sumba Island, which is the nearest island to Aimere sub-district, Flores.

“If you want to visit Mount Inerie, you can ride in a ferry belonging to PT ASDP from Waingapu to Aimere for 6-7 hours trip. The access to Mount Inerie is easy to reach as the location is very strategic,” Fitalis Latu said. (*)
