TIMESINDONESIA, BANYUWANGI – Two lovely people of Banyuwangi, dr. Ananta Naufal Habibi Sp. OT and dr. Anita Yuni Kholillah, turned unused banana sheath into an eco friendly paper bag.
The named their innovation as Sang Paper (Banana paper bag). The idea came when Ananta's wife were busy finding the right paper bag to wrap all his fashion items for her customers.
"We came up to an idea to turn these banana sheath into a paper bag to wrap all those clothes," Ananta said on Wednesday (26/02/2020).
His wife and him then produce the bag manually from their home. They collected the sheath from the local community. They minced it into a small piece the fermented in a salt solution.
They crushed the sheath till it turns into fibers and then put it under the sun till its dry and turned into paper sheets. The paper bag could holds around 5 kg.
Ananta along with his 11 workers at his house in Banyuwangi planned to produce the eco friendly banana sheath paper bag into large scale that could save the use of plastic bag. They distribute the paper bag for IDR 1 K to IDR 10 K per sheet.(*)
