TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – lots if styrofoam waste laying on every corner of the Malang. The students of Politeknik Negeri Malang (Polinema) had an idea to turn the styrofoam into brucket and use it as an alternative energy.

The use then what is socalled as the Bricketting poly-styrene waste by using the thermal decomposition method as an environmental friendly boiler fuel. Galuh Citra Cahya Rohmana, Muhammad Suharto, and Naila Adiba, are the three students that managed to turned the waste into an alternative energy.

Not only the styrofoam, they also use the rice and spinach waste for this. The rice and spinach was dried in around 60°C for 3 days along with the shredded styrofoam.

"Then we put it into a furnace with the correct ratio variable, temperature, and time of cooling. These material will turned into some charcoal and then we wait till it goes to 80°C. And its ready to be use," Suharto said.

He also hope that this research which is supported by the Ministry of Research and Technology could at least reduce the coal mining exploration. The styrofoam bricket by Polinema students Malang was intended to be able to become another alternative energy. (*)
