Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al Issa: A Leading Global Voice on Moderate Islam

TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al Issa is an influential figure in the religious peace movement. He is considered a leading global voice on moderate Islam.

Al Issa, who is also a Secretary General of RAI (which is also known as Muslim World League), is receiving his honorary doctorate, Honoris Causa (HC) from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, on Tuesday (25/2/2020).

Al Issa is receiving the honorary degree of Honoris Causa in the History of Islamic Civilization for his efforts to promote moderation among people. The granting of honorary degree is held in the University Open Senate Meeting on the 5th floor, in the hall of the rectorate building of UIN Malang Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.

Al Issa will be delivering his oration on the topic of ‘Promoting Moderate Islamic to Counteract Extremism and Terrorism’. This oration will be attended by the Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, the Indonesian Ministry of Religion, the president representatives of the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister, Presidential Advisory Council, Alwi Sihab, and other public figures.

UIN Malang, which is also known as Ulul Albab University, will be giving appreciation and award for his efforts in promoting moderate Islam that can protect all groups and his contribution in the future global peacemaking.

Al Issa is considered as a moderate ulama, who is always promoting the brotherhood of Islam (ukhuwwah Islamiyah) and world peace around the globe.

Through this honorary event, UIN Malang will be preparing for the better cooperation, particularly with the universities and hospitals in Arab Saudi.

Furthermore, UIN Malang is now promoting itself to be the World-Class University and to receive the international recognition. The granting of the honorary degree to this Islamic world figure is a mandate given by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion to UIN Malang.

For the information, the figure known as Al Issa is considered the leading global voice of moderate Islam. He also becomes the key figure in the fight to combat extremist ideology.

The religious leaders and government officials commended Al-Issa for this efforts to promote moderation and cooperation among people.

He takes part in many fields and is considered as a reliable figure in political diplomacy. As of the world’s eminent politician and as an eloquent communicators, he becomes one of the most reputable figures.

Aside from being the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Al Issa, who was born on 9 June 1965, is also the President of the Internaional Islamic Halal Organization and the former Minister of Justice.

Even the Catholic religious figure, Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, an influential figure in the United States, commended Al Issa for his eloquent communication skills in the Islamic World for reconciliation and friendship among the religions around the globe. Al Issa is keen on campaigning moderation and tolerance among religions. No wonders why Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, the Archbishop of New York as well as the member of the Roman Catholic Church in the US, referred to Al Issa as the most influential peacemaker. (*)
