This place was also appointed s a venue for Asia Games 2018. However, this place also has dozes amazing place that worth to visit.  

1. Ampera Bridge, the biggest bridge in South East Asia

This bridge is typically Palembang city icon that located in the heart of Palembang city, that connected Seberang Ulu area and Seberang Ilir that separated by the Musi River. This bridge was built in April 1962. Back then, this bridge was set to be able to lift up to let the boat and cruise pass by. Nowadays, this bridge still become a popular place that visited by lots of tourists.

2. Kemaro Island

Kemaro Island is located in the center of Musi River. You could take a boat to go to this island. The driver will only charge you around IDR 20 K from Ampera Bridge dock. This island could be reach withi 10 minutes by boat or around 6 kilometers far. You couold see a pagoda or achinese temple in the center of the island.

3. Songket

Songket is a traditional fabric worn by the local community of Sumatra. This place has its own destictive motifs compared to several area in Indonesia that produce such same songket such as Kalimantan, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa and more. South Sumatra Songket will cost you much sthey also use gold thread.

The method of Songket is made by the sungkit method in which the weaving thread is attached and pinched to enter the gold thread. The making process itself would take a long time, usually about 1 month for each songket.

4. Pempek Palembang 

Pempek is Indonesian Fish Cake served with its signature dark fiery sauce. It’s a signature dish of Palembang South Sumatra. The range of fish cakes varies from the plain round balls to big triangular ones stuffed with hard boiled eggs, they are all typically deep fried in hot oil just prior to serving. The local community has this fish cake for their daily breakfast. Oh boy, discussing this food makes my mouth watering.

5. The biggest Quran in the world

You can also find religious heritage like the biggest Qur’an in the world, the Bayt Al Quran Al Akbar (Great Qur’an Book). The holy words of the Qur’an – all 30 juzs (sections), 114 suras (chapters), and 6236 ayats (verses) -are carved on 316 boards made out of tembesu wood and painted in gold paint.

Each board is 2.5 cm thick, 144 cm wide, and 177 tall, and weighs 50 kg. It is located at Jalan Moh. Amin, Gandus, Palembang, South Sumatra. The Indonesian Record Museum (Museum Rekor Indonesia – “MURI”) has acknowledged this giant Qur’an as the biggest and heaviest transcription of the scripture in the world. (*)
