
TIMESINDONESIA, JOMBANG – Bubur Suro or Suro Stew with some typical side dishes spread on top of it is one awaited festive food for the local community of Jombang. This stew is also one way of the local community to say their gratitude to the Lord.
“My mom used to make me this stew on every Muharram (a month in Islamic lunar calendar). And I’d like to preserve the tradition,” Tri Hartatik a local community of Bulurejo, Diwek, Jombang said on Tuesday (1/9/2020).

Other than becoming a festive food and one grateful way to the Lord, this stew also have some other some story behind it.
1. It’s a way to commemorate the Noah Ark incident thousand years ago.
2. It’s a way to pray for Noah that they believe as one of 25 prophets ever existed in this world.
3. The grain they made for the stew believed to grow from Noah Ark’s left grains after swung on the sea for 40 days.
Other than those three things above this stew (Bubur Suro) of Jombang has delicious taste. It usually served with local side dishes from vegetables to meat that they cook in certain way. (*)
