Ruajak literally means salad, and bebek means crushed or gorund. As its name this fruit salad has a distinctive way in the making. You need some mortar either it’s made of wood or stone to crush the fruits.
After it’s crushed evenly, as any Indonesian way of serving rujak, you need to pour the key ingredients on top of it, the peanut sauce.
The local community of Cirebon used to have this dish as a festive food especially for baby shower ceremony.
“There have not been much people selling this food nowadays, so it’s kinda rare,” Agus a local hawker of Cirebon said on Thursday (12/11/2020).
Unlike the normal fruit salad that consists mainly of common fruit, rujak bebek will also consist of some exotic fruit like noni. It also has an exotic taste of sweet cassava, since this particular food also added in it.
Some other exotic fruits such as guava, jicama, sour mango, pineapple are also added. It makes this rujak gives you a kick of sour, sweet and spicy taste from the peanut sauce at a time.
