PUPR Recommends 7 Suggestions to Renovate Kanjuruhan Stadium

TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – The Minister of Public Works and Housing or PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono and the Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali visited Kanjuruhan Stadium on Thursday (13/10/2022). They both went to the stadium over president order to check the proper condition of the stadium. 

Both the minister and their staffs roam around the stadium and assess the condition of the building. On his previous visit, the president of Indonesia has ordered to evaluate the proper use of the building, which was used for pro league 1, pro league 2, and pro league 3.

On this occasion Basuki said that they will reevaluate the building and reconstruct it into one riot proof building which minimalize the same accident happened. He will also assess which part of the building which create some issues and fix the problem.

"It has become our main priority to finish the technic for the stadium. And we hope that the professionals which included in KKBG (Building Reliability Committee) will finish it by today," Basuki said.

After doing some direct surveillance on the situation of the stadium they found 7 things that needs to be fixed. Three of them were related to the main cause of the accident during tragedy. 

"First was about the stairs, especially from the economy seats which doesn’t have direct stairs that connect to them. The second one was the gate and all the doors which doesn't have some space to the stairs and the elevation was too narrow," Basuki explained.

The third thing to be evaluated according to Basuki was the absence of emergency exit from the economy seat. Meanwhile the other 4 recommendations were about the lighting, rest room, and the right place to put the perimeter between the stadium and parking lot. 

After the finding reported to the president the PUPR will start to bring up the new design that fit to the new stadium need. "We will totally redesign the stadium so it will give more benefit and set us away from such accident," Basuki explained. 

Basuki expects that the process to bring out the new design will take not more than 3 to 4 months. "The renovation might be started in 2023 as the president has ordered. And we wish upon a year, the construction will be finished. And we will also build a monument to reminds us about what happened that day," Basuki stated. 
Meanwhile, the Minnister of Youth and Sports Zainuddin Amali said that this cooperation was to bring a better future for Kanjuruhan stadium. This renovation has become one of their top priorities especially after the president of Indonesia ordered them to. 

"The President told us and the Minister of PUPR to do some inspection and renovation. So, we came here to accompany the minister of PUPR to check the condition of the building," Amali said during his inspection at Kanjuruhan stadium regarding to the soccer tragedy. (*)
