TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Scheduled to depart for Saudi Arabia on May 12, 2024, Indonesian hajj 2024 pilgrims are gearing up for their spiritual journey. This year, the number of pilgrims has reached an impressive 241,000, comprising 213,320 regular pilgrims and 27,680 special hajj pilgrims.

Among them, approximately 45,000 regular pilgrims are aged 65 and above, highlighting the importance of health maintenance, especially in the scorching heat of the Holy Land.

According to data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), health is a paramount concern for the pilgrims, particularly during the journey. "The hajj exercises conducted by hajj officers on the plane are excellent to ensure that our officers remain fresh and ready to continue their duties in prime condition," stated Abdillah, the Head of the Airport Working Area (Kadaker) at Abdillah Airport, on Friday, May 9, 2024.

Abdillah elaborated that conducting hajj exercises on the plane is one of the activities that have been socialized during the hajj orientation for the pilgrims by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. "These hajj exercises will also be implemented for the hajj pilgrims during flights, as an effort to maintain their health while performing religious rituals," he concluded.

The journey of Indonesian hajj pilgrims will commence on May 12, 2024, and will last until June 10, 2024. This extended period underscores the need for sustained health practices throughout the pilgrimage. Besides the mandatory health checks before departure, Indonesian authorities are emphasizing the importance of regular exercise and health-conscious behaviors during the pilgrimage.

In addition to the hajj exercises, authorities are providing guidance on dietary habits and hydration to combat the intense heat of the Arabian Peninsula. Pilgrims are advised to stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing, and avoid excessive sun exposure to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Furthermore, Indonesian hajj pilgrims are encouraged to maintain their physical fitness through simple exercises, even while on the plane. These exercises, which include stretching and light movements, aim to improve blood circulation and alleviate any discomfort caused by prolonged sitting.

Moreover, the hajj journey itself presents an opportunity for spiritual and physical rejuvenation. Pilgrims are urged to embrace the pilgrimage as a holistic experience, focusing not only on the spiritual aspects but also on physical well-being. By integrating health and fitness practices into their pilgrimage, Indonesian hajj pilgrims can ensure a fulfilling and safe journey to the Holy Land and back home.

In conclusion, the journey of Indonesian hajj 2024 pilgrims is not only a spiritual odyssey but also a testament to the commitment to health and well-being. Through proactive measures and conscientious efforts, the Indonesian authorities aim to make this pilgrimage a memorable and enriching experience for all pilgrims. (*)
