Supporting UMKM's to Advance, Baznas Malang Collaborates with Maybank Syariah

TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Malang City, in partnership with Maybank Syariah Malang Branch, is supporting the development of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME/UMKM) sector through an entrepreneurship training program.

This collaboration aims to provide strategic support to UMKM actors in enhancing their knowledge, skills, business management, extensive business networks, and adapting to digital platforms.

This program includes a series of entrepreneurship training activities held at Whiz Hotel Malang for three days, followed by six months of mentoring. These activities are designed to provide in-depth understanding of business management, marketing, finance, and effective business strategies in the digital era. 

A total of 100 UMKM's have been selected to participate, divided into two batches: the first batch on Tuesday-Thursday, May 14-16, 2024, and the second batch on Tuesday-Thursday, May 21-23, 2024. The implementation of this program is facilitated by People Systems Consultancy Indonesia as a direct partner of Maybank Syariah.

Prof. Dr. Kasuwi Saiban, MA, Chairman of Baznas Malang, stated that the partnership with Maybank is a strategic step in supporting the growth and success of Baznas-assisted MSMEs and will certainly provide broader benefits in Indonesia.

"Through this program, we hope to make a meaningful contribution to the progress of UMKM, enhancing their role in the local and national economy. More importantly, we aim to elevate their status from Mustahiq to Muzakki more quickly," said Kasuwi Saiban.

Meanwhile, Maybank Syariah Malang Branch also emphasized its commitment to supporting MSME development as one of the main pillars of the Indonesian economy. "We are very enthusiastic to collaborate with Baznas Malang in providing sustainable support to Baznas-assisted UMKM's through this entrepreneurship training program. This partnership has been ongoing since 2021," said Yuniar Ariwibawa Sasmita, Syariah Branch Manager KCS Malang.

The entrepreneurship training program is expected to have a significant impact on UMKMs, both in improving the quality of their products and services and in increasing their access to wider markets. With support from Maybank Syariah, UMKMs are expected to become a stronger and more sustainable backbone of the economy.

Facing current economic challenges, many preparations are needed so that the community, especially UMKM actors in Malang City, can adapt to the times. Baznas Malang continues to strive to contribute to improving the welfare of the community through various activities and partnerships with parties that share the same orientation in poverty alleviation. 

Sutomo, Vice Chairman IV of Baznas Malang, stated that "acceleration can only be achieved through collaboration with strategic partners to provide broader and more tangible benefits. We thank all parties and partners who support Baznas Malang's activities," he added. 

Edy Hayatullah MM, vice chairman of Baznas, added that this program is part of Baznas Malang City's efforts to raise the class of MSMEs amid the challenges of technological development.

"Baznas wants our UMKMs to be able to answer the challenges of this technological age. Therefore, the touch of technology, social media, AI will also be applied to our UMKMs. Insyalah can advance," said Gus Edi, the nickname of the chairman of 2 STAIMA Al Hikam Malang. (*)
