
TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Hiroko Kawamorita, a prominent academic from the Faculty of Regional Management at Hachinohe Gakuin University, was one of the speakers at the Japan Youth Summit 2024, organized by Youth Break the Boundaries (YBB) in Osaka, Japa (3/7/2024). During the event, Kawamorita discussed the importance of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8, which focuses on economic growth and decent work for all.
The Japan Youth Summit which was brought by YBB (Youth Break the Boundariea) aims to empower young leaders through dialogue, education, and collaboration. By bringing together bright minds from across Japan, this summit seeks to inspire innovative thinking and promote global citizenship among youth.

Durung his present, Kawamorita emphasized the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic growth. "Innovation is a unique tool for entrepreneurs. It is the ability to identify gaps in the market and create something to fill those gaps or find better ways to do something," she stated.
The Japanese lady explained that the innovation process encompasses various stages, from problem identification, idea generation, screening, evaluation, to market implementation. According to her, this capability is crucial for ensuring sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Kawamorita also highlighted how entrepreneurship can contribute to achieving the SDGs. "Sustainable entrepreneurship involves integrating environmental and social responsibility into business operations and objectives. It involves ways to minimize the negative impact of business activities on the planet and its communities while ensuring long-term survival and success," she explained.
Additionally, Kawamorita stressed the importance of decent work for all. "We must promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all," she added.
She also shared data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), which shows that the most critical skills for 2025 are creativity and innovation.
Kawamorita shared her experiences supporting various projects contributing to the SDGs, including higher education institutions in Turkey and Japan, Erasmus Plus youth projects, and local projects like the “Flower Loss Project” in Japan. "We strive to support young innovators in developing sustainable solutions through networking, collaboration, and cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset," she concluded.
